Martin Services does not transport hazardous materials such as chemicals, propane tanks, paint, solvents, or asbestos-containing materials, but we identify these items during the cleanout process and direct you to proper disposal resources. Estate cleanouts frequently uncover stored chemicals, old paint cans, cleaning solvents, automotive fluids, and other materials that require special handling under Ontario environmental regulations. Our crew is trained to recognize these items and set them aside so they do not end up in the regular waste stream.

Common Hazardous Items Found During Cleanouts

In our experience cleaning out estates and properties across Powassan, North Bay, Callander, and surrounding areas, the most commonly encountered hazardous items include old latex and oil-based paints, stains and varnishes, automotive oil and antifreeze, pesticides and herbicides, propane cylinders, pool chemicals, household batteries, fluorescent light tubes, and cleaning products containing bleach or ammonia. Older homes may also contain vermiculite insulation with asbestos, mercury thermostats, or lead paint that should not be disturbed without proper assessment. These items cannot legally be placed in regular landfill waste in Ontario.

Outside of hazardous materials, Martin Services removes virtually everything during a full estate cleanout — furniture, appliances, clothing, electronics, construction debris, yard waste, and general household contents. We sort as we go, separating items for donation, recycling, and disposal to minimize landfill impact.
