Factors That Affect the Timeline
A standard wooden garden shed on a gravel pad with good truck access can typically be torn down, loaded, and hauled away within three to five hours. A larger structure — say a 20-by-24 detached garage with a concrete slab foundation — requires more time for demolition, more loads for debris hauling, and additional work to break up and remove the slab. Steel buildings, structures with concrete block walls, or buildings with poured concrete foundations add time because the materials are heavier and harder to process. If the structure contains electrical wiring, plumbing, or has been used for storage with a large volume of contents, that cleanup and sorting time adds to the schedule as well.
Site Access and Preparation
Access is a major timeline factor. If our excavator and dump trailer can pull right up to the structure, work moves fast. If the structure is behind a house, surrounded by trees, or accessible only through a narrow gate, we may need to use smaller equipment or manually carry material to the staging area, which adds hours. We assess access during the estimate visit and plan our approach accordingly. In some cases, we recommend removing a fence section temporarily or trimming tree branches to open up an equipment path — small steps that save significant time during the actual demolition.
