Interlocking concrete pavers — the most popular choice for front walkways and high-traffic areas — range from $50 to $90 per linear foot installed with a proper base. Natural stone pavers or cut stone can reach $80 to $120 per linear foot. Poured concrete is another option at $40 to $70 per linear foot, though it is more susceptible to frost heave damage in Northern Ontario unless properly prepared.
What Drives the Cost Up
Beyond materials, several factors can increase the cost of a walkway installation. Longer walkways cost more in total but may have a slightly lower per-foot cost due to setup efficiencies. Curves and patterns add labour time. If the existing ground is sloped, has poor drainage, or needs significant excavation, site preparation costs increase. Steps or transitions between levels add complexity and cost. In Northern Ontario, a proper walkway needs a deep gravel base — typically 8 to 12 inches — to prevent frost heave damage, and this base preparation is where much of the cost lies.
