Martin Services both plants flowers and maintains existing garden beds across Powassan, North Bay, and surrounding communities. Whether you want annual colour refreshed each spring, new perennial installations, or ongoing maintenance of beds you have already established, we handle the full range of garden bed services. Many of our clients use a combination — we maintain their existing perennial beds while adding seasonal annuals for colour in key display areas like front entrances, patio planters, and mailbox gardens.
Seasonal Flower Planting
Annual flower planting in Northern Ontario follows a tight schedule. Our last frost date in the Powassan and North Bay area is typically late May to early June, which means annuals cannot go in the ground until then. Martin Services sources hardy, locally grown annuals wherever possible and plants them after the frost risk has passed. Popular choices for Northern Ontario include petunias, marigolds, impatiens, begonias, and geraniums — all of which perform reliably through our short but intense summer growing season. We handle the full service: removing old plants, amending the soil, installing new plantings, and mulching the beds for a finished look.
Perennial Installations
Perennial plantings are a longer-term investment that returns year after year once established. Martin Services designs and installs perennial gardens using species proven to thrive in our zone 4a to 4b climate. We select plants for sequential bloom timing so your garden has colour from the first crocuses and daffodils in spring through to the asters and ornamental grasses of fall. Proper plant spacing, soil preparation, and mulching at installation give perennials the best start in Northern Ontario's short growing season. With 35 years of experience, we know which perennials perform reliably here and which ones are marginal for our climate.
Ongoing Bed Maintenance
Planting flowers is only half the job — keeping beds looking their best through the season requires regular maintenance. Martin Services offers monthly or bi-monthly maintenance visits that include weeding, deadheading spent blooms, light pruning, edge cleanup, and monitoring for pest or disease issues. Regular maintenance prevents small problems from becoming major ones and keeps your garden beds looking intentional and well-cared-for from May through October. Most clients find that a combination of professional planting and ongoing maintenance produces significantly better results than either service alone.
