Yes, you need to prepare a level pad, clear access path, and ensure electrical service is ready before your hot tub delivery. Proper preparation before delivery day ensures your hot tub can be placed safely, connected quickly, and enjoyed sooner. Martin Services handles hot tub delivery across Powassan, North Bay, Callander, and surrounding communities, and we walk every customer through exactly what needs to be ready before we arrive.
The Pad or Base
A hot tub needs a solid, level surface that can support the combined weight of the tub, water, and occupants — which can exceed 4,000 pounds for a full-size model. The most common options are a reinforced concrete pad (at least 4 inches thick), a compacted gravel pad with interlocking pavers, or an engineered deck built to handle the load. The pad should be level within a quarter inch across the full footprint of the tub. If it is not level, the shell can stress and crack over time. Martin Services can build a proper hot tub pad for you if needed — just let us know when you call.
Access Path
Hot tubs are large and heavy, even empty. We need a clear path from where the delivery truck can park to the final placement location. The path should be at least 36 inches wider than the tub on each side, free of low-hanging branches, fences, or obstacles. Gates need to be wide enough or temporarily removed. If the tub needs to go over uneven terrain or up slopes, we use specialized equipment — but knowing the access situation in advance lets us plan the right approach. Send us photos of your access path when you schedule delivery and we will confirm the plan.
Electrical Service
Most full-size hot tubs require a dedicated 240-volt, 50-amp circuit with a GFCI breaker, installed by a licensed electrician. This should be in place before delivery day so you can fill and heat the tub right away. Smaller plug-and-play models run on a standard 120-volt outlet but heat more slowly. We recommend having your electrician complete the wiring at least a week before scheduled delivery to avoid delays. Martin Services can recommend local electricians familiar with hot tub installations if you need one.
