Martin Services separates usable items during every estate and property cleanout, directing quality items to local donation centres, charities, and community organizations in the Powassan and North Bay area. We believe in responsible cleanout practices — if something has life left in it, we make every effort to keep it out of the landfill and get it to someone who can use it.
How We Sort During a Cleanout
As our crew works through a property, items are sorted into categories: items the family wants to keep, items suitable for donation, recyclable materials, and waste. Usable furniture, working appliances, clothing in good condition, kitchenware, tools, books, and other household goods are separated and set aside for donation. We work with local organizations that accept these items and arrange drop-off or pickup as part of our cleanout process.
What Qualifies as Donatable
Donation centres accept items that are clean, functional, and in reasonable condition. Furniture without significant damage or staining, appliances that work, clothing that is wearable, and household goods that are complete and usable all qualify. Items that are broken, heavily worn, stained, or missing parts generally do not meet donation standards and are directed to recycling or disposal. Our crew uses good judgment in separating items, and if you have specific preferences about what should be donated vs. discarded, let us know before the cleanout begins.
Recycling and Responsible Disposal
Beyond donations, Martin Services recycles metal, electronics, cardboard, and other materials that have recycling value. Scrap metal from appliances, fixtures, and hardware is separated. Electronics are directed to proper e-waste recycling. Our goal on every cleanout is to divert as much as possible from the landfill through a combination of donations, recycling, and responsible disposal practices.
