Your landscaping doesn't stop working when the sun goes down — at least it shouldn't. Professional garden lighting extends your enjoyment of outdoor living spaces into the evening, deters unwanted visitors, eliminates tripping hazards on walkways and steps, and dramatically increases the perceived value of your property. In Northern Ontario, where winter days are short, well-designed lighting means you actually get to see and enjoy your property for more than a few hours a day.
Signs Your Property Needs Garden Lighting
If any of these sound familiar, landscape lighting will solve the problem — and add value to your property at the same time.
Dark Walkways & Steps
Unlit paths and stairs are a tripping hazard — especially during Northern Ontario's early-dark winters. Path lights eliminate the risk and guide visitors safely to your door.
No Curb Appeal After Dark
You invested in landscaping, but nobody can see it after 5pm half the year. Uplights and accent lighting showcase your property 24/7 and boost home value.
Security Concerns
Dark yards invite trouble. Strategic landscape lighting eliminates hiding spots around your home, garage, and outbuildings — making your property a harder target.
Can't Enjoy Your Patio After Dark
Summer evenings are short enough already. Deck and patio lighting extends your outdoor living season and makes entertaining possible well into the night.
How We Install Garden Lighting
On-Site Consultation
We walk your property — ideally at dusk — to understand your goals, identify key features to highlight, and assess power source locations.
Lighting Design Plan
We create a custom lighting layout showing fixture types, placement, cable routing, and transformer location — tailored to your property and budget.
Fixture Selection
We help you choose from weatherproof LED fixtures in the right colour temperature, beam angle, and finish to match your home's style.
Cable Routing & Transformer
Low-voltage cables are buried below grade for a clean look. The transformer is mounted near an outdoor outlet and sized to handle the full system load.
Fixture Placement & Wiring
Each fixture is positioned for optimal effect — path lights spaced for even coverage, uplights angled to highlight trees and architecture, step lights recessed for safety.
Timer & Smart Control Setup
We program your system with dusk-to-dawn automation, timers, or smart Wi-Fi controls — whatever level of convenience you prefer.
Final Adjustment & Walkthrough
We fine-tune every fixture angle and brightness at night, walk you through the controls, and make sure you're completely satisfied with the result.
Types of Garden Lighting We Install
Every property is different. We mix and match these fixture types to create a custom lighting design that looks natural, not overdone.
Path Lights
Low-profile fixtures that line walkways, driveways, and garden paths. Spaced 6-8 feet apart for even, glare-free illumination that guides visitors safely.
Uplights & Tree Lights
Ground-mounted spotlights aimed upward to highlight mature trees, architectural features, and stone walls. Creates dramatic shadows and depth at night.
Step & Deck Lights
Recessed or surface-mounted fixtures for stairs, deck edges, and railings. Essential for safety on elevated surfaces and multi-level patios.
Accent Spotlights
Focused beams that draw attention to specific landscape features — a specimen tree, water feature, garden sculpture, or architectural detail on your home.
Bollard Lights
Freestanding post-style fixtures ideal for marking driveways, property boundaries, and wider pathways. Available in modern and traditional styles.
String & Bistro Lights
Overhead string lights for patios, pergolas, and outdoor dining areas. Creates a warm, inviting ambience perfect for entertaining and relaxation.
Why We Install Low-Voltage LED Exclusively
We switched to LED-only installations years ago and haven't looked back. The technology is simply better in every measurable way — efficiency, longevity, safety, and performance in Northern Ontario's extreme temperatures.
Low-voltage systems (12V) are safe to install and maintain without an electrician's licence. The cables can be buried just a few inches below grade, making installation faster and less disruptive to your existing landscaping. And because LEDs produce virtually no heat, there's zero fire risk near mulch, dry leaves, and plantings.
LED Advantages at a Glance
- 80% less electricity — compared to halogen landscape lighting
- 25,000–50,000 hour lifespan — vs. 2,000–4,000 for halogen bulbs
- No heat output — safe near mulch, plants, and wood structures
- Better in cold weather — LEDs perform best at low temperatures
Garden Lighting FAQs
Got questions about landscape lighting? Here are the ones we hear most. Can't find your answer? Call us at (249) 506-9211.
What's the difference between LED and halogen landscape lighting?
LED uses up to 80% less electricity, lasts 25,000-50,000 hours vs. halogen's 2,000-4,000 hours, and produces no heat near mulch and plants. The upfront cost is slightly higher, but LEDs pay for themselves within the first year. We install LED exclusively. Call (249) 506-9211 for details.
How much does landscape lighting cost to install?
A typical residential installation with 8-15 fixtures — covering walkways, key plantings, and a patio area — generally falls between $1,500 and $4,000 installed. We include the transformer, all cabling, fixtures, and timer setup. Call (249) 506-9211 for a free estimate.
How much does landscape lighting cost to run?
Very little. A typical 10-15 fixture LED system uses about the same electricity as a single 100-watt bulb. Running a full system dusk to dawn costs roughly $2-5 per month on your hydro bill — beautiful lighting for pennies a day.
Can I control the lights from my phone?
Yes. We install smart transformers and Wi-Fi controllers that let you adjust brightness, set schedules, and create zones from your phone. Some systems integrate with Alexa and Google Home. We also offer simple photocell and timer options if you prefer set-and-forget.
Will the fixtures survive Northern Ontario winters?
Absolutely. We install fixtures rated for extreme cold and wet conditions — built for Canadian winters. LED fixtures actually perform better in cold temperatures. Cables are buried below grade and transformers are weatherproof-rated. The only consideration is adjusting path lights if heavy snow drifts cover them.
How many fixtures do I need?
It depends on your goals. A front walkway needs 4-6 path lights, uplighting trees adds 3-4 fixtures, and a patio area uses 4-6 lights. Most homes look great with 10-20 total. We'll walk your property at dusk and design the right plan. Call (249) 506-9211 to book.
