Snow Removal in North Bay & Powassan
When Northern Ontario winters hit hard, Martin Services keeps your property safe and accessible. Residential driveways, commercial lots, sidewalks, and rural laneways — plowed, salted, and cleared with Boss HTX plows and a fleet that's ready before the storm stops.
Martin Services provides professional snow removal for residential and commercial properties across North Bay, Powassan, Callander, Astorville, and surrounding communities in Northern Ontario. Our crews run Boss HTX plows mounted on a fleet of trucks, delivering fast, reliable snow clearing from November through April. We handle everything from compact town driveways to 500-metre rural laneways, commercial parking lots to church walkways — fully insured with WSIB coverage and backed by 35 years of experience working through Northern Ontario winters.
Winter in the Nipissing District is no joke. The Lake Nipissing effect pushes average annual snowfall well above 250 centimetres, with individual storms regularly dumping 20 to 30 centimetres overnight. Add in brutal cold snaps that can lock temperatures at minus 30 for days, and you're dealing with conditions that demand serious equipment and crews who know what they're doing. That's exactly what Martin Services brings to every job.
Because we're based right here in Powassan — not driving up from Barrie or Orillia — we respond fast when storms hit. Our trucks are prepped and staged before the first flake falls, and our contract customers know that when they wake up, their driveway will already be cleared. That's the difference a local crew makes.
Snow Removal for Every Property Type
From residential driveways to commercial parking lots, we keep Northern Ontario properties safe and accessible all winter long.
Residential Driveways
Your driveway cleared before you leave for work. We prioritize early-morning residential plowing so contract customers can get on the road safely — no shovelling, no stress, no waiting.
Commercial Parking Lots
Businesses, churches, medical offices, and retail locations. We clear and salt commercial lots to keep your customers and staff safe and your doors open — no matter what the forecast brings.
Sidewalks & Walkways
Slip-and-fall liability prevention starts with clear walkways. We hand-clear paths to your front door, office entrance, and building access points so everyone gets in and out safely.
Laneways & Rural Properties
Long driveways, farm lanes, and rural properties are our specialty. We handle everything from 50-metre town laneways to 500-metre-plus country drives that other companies won't touch.
Salting & De-Icing
Prevent ice buildup and dangerous refreeze with treated salt application after every plow. We apply de-icing material to driveways, walkways, and high-traffic areas to keep surfaces safe between storms.
Roof Snow Removal
Heavy snow loads and ice dams can cause structural damage and water infiltration. We safely remove snow buildup from roofs to prevent costly repairs and protect your property through the worst of winter.
Our Boss HTX plows are built for Northern Ontario conditions.
On the road — clearing snow when it matters most.
Why Martin Services for Snow Removal
When the storm hits at 2am, you want a crew that's already on the road — not one that's still loading up two hours away.
Local Response Time
We're based in Powassan, not driving from Barrie or Orillia. When a storm hits, we're already close to your property. That means faster response, earlier clearing, and less time you're stuck waiting for a plow that's still an hour away.
Dedicated Fleet
Multiple trucks equipped with Boss HTX plows — purpose-built for Northern Ontario's heavy, wet snow. Our fleet is maintained, prepped, and staged before every forecasted storm so we can deploy immediately when accumulation triggers hit.
Reliable Schedule
Contract customers get priority — always. You're never waiting behind a queue of one-off calls. Our routes are planned in advance, and your property is on the list before the first flake falls. Most residential driveways are cleared by 7am.
35+ Years of Northern Ontario Winters
We know the storms, the timing, and the trouble spots. We know which driveways drift first, which intersections ice over fastest, and how Lake Nipissing effect snow behaves differently than Alberta clippers. That experience means fewer callbacks and cleaner results.
Our Snow Removal Process
From storm monitoring to the last shovel of salt, here's how we keep your property safe and accessible through every Northern Ontario winter storm.
Storm Monitoring
We track Environment Canada forecasts daily and deploy when accumulation triggers hit. No waiting for a phone call — our trucks roll automatically when conditions require it.
Priority Dispatch
Contract customers are cleared first, typically by early morning. Our routes are pre-planned so we hit every property in the most efficient order — commercial first, then residential.
Plowing & Pushing
Boss HTX plows clear driveways, laneways, and parking lots down to pavement. We push snow to designated areas and keep turnarounds clear for safe vehicle access.
Salting & De-Icing
Treated salt applied to driveways, walkways, and high-traffic areas to prevent dangerous refreeze. Essential for commercial properties and any surface with regular foot traffic.
Sidewalk & Walkway Clearing
Hand-cleared paths to your front door, side entrances, and building access points. We clear right down to the surface so there's no packed snow turning into ice overnight.

Snow Removal FAQs
Got questions about our snow removal service? Here are the ones we hear most. Can't find your answer? Call us at (249) 506-9211.
When do you start snow removal for the season?
We begin operations in November, as soon as the first significant accumulation hits. In the Powassan and North Bay area, that's usually mid-to-late November, though some years we've been out plowing before Halloween. Our trucks are prepped and ready by early November so we can respond immediately when winter arrives. Read the full answer →
What's your trigger depth for plowing?
For seasonal contract customers, our standard trigger depth is 5cm (about 2 inches). Once snowfall hits that threshold, our trucks are dispatched automatically — you don't need to call us. We can customize trigger depths based on your needs. Some commercial clients want us out at 2.5cm, while others prefer a higher threshold.
Do you salt after plowing?
Yes. Salt and de-icing treatment is included in most seasonal contracts, or available as an add-on for per-push customers. We apply treated salt to driveways, walkways, and parking areas after plowing to prevent refreeze and ice buildup — essential for commercial properties with regular foot traffic.
How early will my driveway be cleared?
Contract customers are priority — most residential driveways are cleared by 7:00am so you can get to work safely. During heavy overnight storms, our crews start as early as 3:00am to stay ahead of accumulation. Commercial properties are often cleared even earlier. Call (249) 506-9211 for details.
Do you remove snow from rural or long driveways?
Absolutely. We handle everything from compact town driveways in North Bay to 500-metre-plus rural laneways in Powassan, Nipissing, and East Ferris. Our Boss HTX plows are built for exactly this kind of work — long runs, deep snow, and tight turnarounds. Many of our rural customers have been with us for years because they know we'll get to them no matter what the storm brings.
